Book review on "Can you keep a secret?" by Sophie Kinsella

I've been rooting for collecting all the Sophie Kinsella best sellers since the time I saw the movie - "Confessions of a shopaholic", and anything which includes fashion always has my attention first!
And guess what? Almost all her novels consists of a shopping-maniac. But this one is different. Rom-com being her genre, it gives the reader immense joy, of having these mainstream happy endings, the plot of this book is just so similar to some k-drama's, meaning, it's always sugar sweet. This book is about Emma, and her "secrets", all kinds of secrets, some of them being, how she fakes her branded items, how she weighs more than what she tells, how she finds G-strings uncomfortable, how she feeds her annoying colleague's plant with orange juice whenever she talks to much, how she always feels like her boyfriend Connor looks like Ken as in the one in the Barbie movies, how she lies to him about loving jazz when she just can't stand it and what not!
Emma Corrigan, is a marketing assistant at Panther Corporation. While returning from her very first "obviously failed" deal, she's all upset as it was kind of her big break and her only chance to get promoted. But on the plane, when it hits some turbulence, and she being terribly scared of plane rides already, speaks out all her secrets to a stranger, each one of it! Now imagine a person knowing everything about you? EVERYTHING? Yes, but who cares he was a stranger anyway. At least she thought he was a "stranger". And later when she finds out who the person actually is, she regrets bumping into him that day. Eventually the presence of this new stranger changes her, for good or worse? She has no clue. But her life comes to an ease, she falls in love with this person, who knows EVERYTHING about her. One can always debate about being 100% honest to someone or just keeping some part of you to yourself. What do you think?

  1. Very nice review. The theme, development of the plot and the language - all are presented skillfully.
